German Chocolate
1 package Bakers German sweet chocolate
2 ½ cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ cup boiling water
4 stiffly beaten egg whites
4 unbeaten egg yolks
1 cup margarine or butter
2 cups sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup butter milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter
and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat well after each. Add melted
chocolate and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together salt, baking soda, and flour. Add
alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating until smooth. Fold in beaten egg
whites. Pour into three 8 or 9 inch cake layer pans. Lined on bottoms with paper.
Bake 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Cool completely. Then add filling &
frost. |
