2 sticks real butter (slightly salted)
1 1/2 cups shortening (butter flavor Crisco)
5 eggs 3 cups sugar
3 cups plain flour
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-2 teaspoons additional flavoring (your choice
 

 

 
1 tube pan generously greased and floured In a large mixing bowl mix the 2 sticks of butter with the 1 1/2 cups of shortening until blended. Add the eggs one at a time and mix thoroughly. Add the sugar one-cup at a time and mix well with each. Then add the flour one-cup at a time. Batter will be very thick. Measure out the 1 cup of milk and place in a cup or bowl slightly larger than the cup size. Stir in the baking powder, vanilla and other flavoring with the milk. Add the milk mixture a little at a time to the batter. Batter will be slightly less thick, but still very thick. Spoon into greased and floured tube pan spreading it evenly.

Bake at 325 for 1 hour and 20 minutes. If using cake mold, watch for doneness since each mold is different. Cool on wire rack for 10-15 minutes, then remove outer side of pan. Remain cooling on rack for another hour before removing tube from the inside.
