Materials/equipment

Gum paste                                                     Vegetable fat

Artist pallet knife                                            Yellow Food color

Orange petal dust                                           Gin/Vodka

Fine paintbrush                                               Royal icing

Two small piping bags                                     Piping tips 1, 2

Soften a piece of gum paste to working consistency. Color the gum paste yellow.
Roll a small piece of the yellow gum paste into a ball (to remove any cracks before continuing).


Place/hold the ball of gum paste between your index fingers. Roll the paste between your fingers - to create a neck.
   


Pinch the gum paste between index finger and thumb – to create the beak.


Define the beak by marking a line on the gum paste – using the artist pallet knife.
   


Place the paste on a firm surface and using your thumb press down on the back area.
   


Pinch the body of the duck between index finger and thumb to create the tail.


Use the dresden modelling tool to create the eyes sockets.
   


Mix a small amount of the orange petal dust with s few drops of the gin/vodka to create a paint. Using the fine paintbrush paint the beak.


Half fill a small piping bag with white royal icing (No. 2 piping tip) and pipe the eyes.


Half fill a small piping bag with brown royal icing (No. 1 piping tip) and pipe the pupil of the eye.
