Gum Paste Shoe

Materials/equipment
Shoe mold
Rolling out board
Gum paste
Small rolling pin
Vegetable shortening
Artist Pallet knife
Edible glue plus brush
Embosser (Optional)
A small amount of cornstarch in a dusting
bag

Dust the mould with cornflour

Roll out a piece of gum paste
and place in the mould

Carefully
smooth the gum paste into shape. Use an artist pallet knife and remove the
excess gum paste (make sure you hold the gum paste in position while you cut
away the excess).

Paint the
indention of the heel with edible glue.

Roll a piece
of gum paste into a cone and fill the indentation of the heel (make sure the gum
paste is level with the mould and no higher).

Carefully remove the gum paste
shoe from the mold, re dust the mold with cornstarch and replace the gum paste
shoe. Leave to set no less than two hours. After that time remove the shoe from
the mold and leave to dry 24 hours.

Paint the edge of the one shoe
(half) with edible glue.

Roll a thin sausage of gum paste and attach to the
edge of the shoe.

Make a small amount of gunge
(gum paste let down with edible glue, till it resembles well chewed chewing
gum). Place a small amount of the gunge on the heel.

Paint the edge of the other shoe
half with edible glue.

Carefully place
the two shoe pieces together. Remove any excess gum paste.

Leave the shoe to set (over
night).
Roll out a piece of gum paste and cut out a sole for inside the shoe. Secure the
sole inside the shoe.

Roll out a piece of gum paste,
paint the outside of the shoe excluding the heel with edible glue.

Place the gum paste over the
shoe and mould into shape. Cut away excess.

Optional - Texture the surface
of the shoe.

Roll out a piece of gum paste.
Paint the heel of the shoe with edible glue and attach the piece of gum paste.
Trim to fit.

Rollout a piece of gum paste roughly cut out a shoe sole shape. Paint a
small amount of edible glue on the sole of the shoe. Attach the gum paste sole.
Trim the gum paste level with the heel and level with the shoe upper.

Paint a spot of edible gum paste on the heel of the shoe.
Attach a piece of gum paste. Trim/remove surplus gum paste.
