Materials/equipment Gum paste Cornstarch in a muslin bag Edible glue plus brush Vegetable fat Small amount of fondant Tylo powder Rolling pin Rolling out board Oval cutter Artist pallet knife Patchwork Cutter mini quilter Royal icing 1/8th inch space bars Small piping bag
Add a small amount of Tylo Power (CMC) to a piece of fondant. Knead well combined.
Roll out the piece of fondant till approx. ¾ inch in thickness.
Use the cutter and cut out an oval shape. Leave to dry 24 hours
Soften a piece of gum paste to working consistency. Very lightly grease (you need to know its there, but not be able to see it) the rolling out board and rolling pin. Roll the gum paste out (using the space bars)
Texture the surface of the gum paste using the patchwork cutter – make sure you line up the design.
Use the same oval cutter that you used on the fondant and cut out an oval disc. Leave to dry 24 hours
Roll out a long strip of gum paste (using the space bars).
Texture the surface of the gum paste using the patchwork cutter – make sure you line up the design.
Follow the design and cut two straight edges
Paint the side surface of the disc of fondant with edible glue. Secure the textured strip of gum paste to the side. The strip of gum paste needs to be approx ¼ inch higher than the disc of fondant.
Hold the artist pallet knife level with the strip of gum paste. Pull the gum paste towards the blade of the knife to cut the strip of gum paste. Leave to dry 24 hours
Roll a long thin sausage of gum paste.
Paint a line of edible glue along the edge of the dried oval disc of gum paste. Secure the sausage of gum paste to the disc.
Cut/remove the surplus gum paste. Leave to dry 24 hours
Secure the freehand modelled toys into the container with a small amount of royal icing.
Pipe a fat line of royal icing at the back of the container and secure the lid
